I would consider CBD to be “all the rage” when it comes to new supplements. It is the most asked-for, and asked-about product when people come to me at the Nutrifarmacy. CBD became legal in 2014, and since it is hemp-derived there is no need to CBD, a derivative from the hemp plant, has been shown to support the body with variety of issues including symptoms of anxiety, depression, epilepsy, schizophrenia, pain relief, inflammation, insomnia, arthritis, autoimmunity, cancer, Alzheimers, dementia, Parkinsons, and others. But for the typical buyer, one question remains. How can one product work for so many different symptoms? The answer lies in the system that CBD effects: the endocannabinoid system. Read more…
What are Endocannabinoids?
So what are endocannabinoids? Our body naturally produces cannabinoids in order to reduce pain and inflammation, decrease anxiety, enhance sleep, balance immune function, and modulate a variety of processes our cells normally perform. The endocannabinoid system works using a variety of receptors in the body. Think of receptors like a lock, and the cannabinoids like the key. The human brain (and the rest of the body) is saturated with these receptors. Too many stressors (environmental, microbial, altered sleep patterns etc.) increase inflammation within our body which effects our endocannabinoid (endo meaning within) system. CBD is what I would consider an “exo”cannabinoid (from outside) our body. CBD is useful for so many because it can bring this system “back into balance”. Since the endocannabinoid system is found everywhere throughout our body, it is no wonder that it can positively impact so many different symptoms.
